Episode 86 – In Memory of Sgt Littlewind

Episode 86 – In Memory of Sgt Littlewind

In Memory of Sgt. Rocky Littlewind USMC – May 12, 1989 – Oct. 23, 2016

This was a different kind of podcast. I got a message asking to talk to me about the organization America’s Run for the Fallen – Run for the Fallen. Jody Ranisate is the Lead Run Captain for Iowa. Her brother Rocky served in the Marine Corps. Rocky was deployed to Afghanistan and Okinawa. Jody loved her brother and was proud that he was a Marine. Rocky came home and had a long battle with PTSD.

Unfortunately, Rocky lost his battle with PTSD in 2016. This podcast is dedicated to his service and memory.

I have no idea what it would be like to lose a sibling or someone I know this way. When Jody and I started talking, I wanted to let her tell her story and talk about her outreach through America’s Run for the Fallen, but I wanted to be respectful. I had never done a podcast like this that was as personal and hurtful at the same time.

Jody and I got connected over Skype and once I had the sound right we just started talking. Sometimes people want to go right to their organization they represent and use the time to tell me what they do and how everyone can help. She took a different path for our conversation.
Jody talked about Rocky from a sister’s perspective. Many times you hear from the wife, mother or father about their loss, but not necessarily the siblings. As she talked to me, I got to know Rocky, not as a Sgt of Marines, but as a person, a brother who made people laugh and loved serving his country.

America’s Run for the Fallen was a way that Jody could give back and advocate for other people who have lost loved ones.

Jodie or the Family Court System

SITUATION

Matthew Hindes & his daughter. Navy Times

Wes and I have found that there have been situations of blatant hostility toward fathers in the military. Since we are trying to avoid anecdotal evidence, I found the story of Naval Submariner Matthew Hindes. Judge Margaret Noe had threatened Matthew with jail time and reverting custody of his daughter back to the mother. Matthew’s lawyer cited the ServiceMembers Civil Relief  Act Subchapter II, Section 3931, Subheading 4D – Stay of proceedings – Link to the document is here -> UNITED STATES CODE Servicemembers Civil Relief Act Accurate as of March 6, 2016 .

Judge Noe, literally said she would not honor or respect Federal Statute, and threatened jail time for contempt of court. She also said she would take Matthew’s daughter away from him and giving her back to her mother. I got upset that people don’t think this kind of thing happens. Read the following links and you tell me if this is fantasy.

MISSION

Wes and I wanted to start framing these episodes with the concept of SMEAC, or the Five paragraph order: Situation, Mission, Execution, Admin/Logistics, Command and Signals. This way we can provide some ideas on how to deal with both Jody and Jodie from a warrior’s perspective.

Execution

We want you all to execute some self learning, and start arming yourself with knowledge. These are the links that Wes referenced in this podcast.

http://www.ncsl.org/research/human-services/child-support-process-administrative-vs-judicial.aspx

Admin/Logistics

Wes and I are not probate lawyers nor are we military law experts. You should always consult an attorney before making any kind of choice that could have an negative impact on your case. Also reach out for help from fellow Veterans if you are in a hard time. 22 a day is still a reality.

Command and Signals

As Wes said over and over, you must keep yourself under control in the courtroom at all times. You must try to master your feelings and emotions. If you think of this as battleground, it is easier to take those negative emotions out of the equation.

Episode 84 – Mistress Carrie Update Pt.1

Mistress Carrie – WAAF DJ – Update Part One

Mistress Carrie is a DJ for WAAF in Boston, MA. She came on Oscar Mike Radio for Episode 62. Click here for (OMR Episode 62 Link) for the podcast. We had talked about all the trolls who blew up over a picture of her and Senator Elizabeth Warren. The whole thing went way out of proportion and people were talking all kinds of crazy stuff about how Mistress Carrie didn’t care for Veterans. Well, suffice to say she went scorched earth on that idea!  At the end of the podcast she told me she was working on the top secret mission would update me later.

Fast forward to March, and we setup a time to talk again. Suffice to say she got a big welcome to life in the military! Hurry up and wait to go nowhere fast!!!

All kidding aside, when you understand what was required to get ready to go on this mission, to get the no go order at the last minute was a big let down to say the least. Listening her talk about what it took to go, much less execute, you can see that this wasn’t a publicity stunt. She genuinely cares about those who are in the military and veterans.

My question is I wonder what will be next for her?

The reason I am doing this as two parts is once we got done talking about her latest mission, the conversation kept going and, I didn’t want to cut it. So I will do the second part of the conversation in a couple weeks.

Question of the Week

How’s it going everyone? I will ask the question this week. The OMR logo has classic look that has been here since day one. I needed to update some things and my producer – Sinista1 a.k.a Keith Hayes asked me to try to use green/gold combination and see what happens. The image on the left is the idea for the new color scheme. The artists is going to incorporate some black, but this is direction I am looking at going.

What do you all think? If you want to sound off about this, let me know – travis@oscarmikeradio.com or on the Oscar Mike Radio Facebook Page

Introducing Megan Bruce

Like I said in my podcast, I was sipping on my Polar Mandarin Orange Seltzer when I saw this video hit my OMR Facebook Feed – [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nOynz3dcqQ[/embedyt] – I thought this was some comedienne trying to make a name for herself. I was wrong, and so it is with great pleasure that I want to introduce Megan Bruce, Marine Veteran and comedienne who has no problem going scorched earth on someone. I am hoping to have her on Oscar Mike Radio, but until then like the video and hit that subscribe button to stay in the know. OMR sends, you won’t be sorry. Check out the Megan Bruce Facebook Page.

The Word – Admiral Dewey

Dewey Square on a sunny summer day.

What do you know about Dewey Square? Most people will tell you that it was the site of Occupy Boston, and not give a second thought to it’s namesake. Did you know that Dewey Square by South Station in Boston was named after a Navy Legend? Admiral George Dewey is the only Naval Officer ever to receive the rank of Admiral of the Navy. Looking through Admiral Dewey’s career and realized I couldn’t cover everything in 30 minutes.

I wanted to raise awareness about a name that is associated with protesters who trashed Dewey Square. I know because everyday of the Occupy Boston Protest I walked by it twice a day.

Admiral Dewey was an American Hero. More than anything else, I want to find out more about other landmarks that are named after military veterans.

Love the shout out to the Marines!

Episode 81 – Series on Jody

Episode 81 – Series on Jody

Part One: Who is Jodie?

Jodie, or Jody is a legendary figure for military men has been terrorizing servicemembers for years. You can click on this link — WayWord Radio – Jody to hear how this term came to be. I had been thinking about this for a while because a couple guys I know get really down during February. Also, in boot camp, some poor guy is getting his heart stomped on right now.

However, I was talking over this with my Marine Brother, Wesley Mullings, and he said, “What if Jody is Jodie?” What if Jody is a machine that can prevent fathers from seeing their kids. I thought about it about and said how about we do a series on this? Wes thought it over and here we go.

The one thing we want to make clear is this is not a monthly women bashing session. What we are looking at doing is offering support to Military and Veterans who are going through divorce, or are dealing with the battlefield that is family court. This goes for female service members too. If you are a female service member and are battling through this, we want to hear from you.

So who is Jody? For many guys it is the “other man”. The guy they got dumped for in boot camp. Jody is the guy that your kids call uncle or daddy when you get back from a Westpac Float. Oh yeah, smooth but unseen, he preys on unsuspecting wives and girlfriends while you are getting your ass kicked daily defending your country.

You find out Jody struck and your world comes to screeching halt. There are these feelings of rage, despair and helplessness. If you are a recruit in boot-camp it really sucks, but it happens in the fleet to active duty military all too often to ignore anymore.

Some of you may feel the need to do all kinds of things. Things that may seem like a good idea at the time, but in reality will make the situation worse.  Wes said it best, “Keep your cool.” You need to talk to someone and get some help. This Jody Series is designed to give you tools to win at life and in family court.
