257 – Semper Fi Designs

Alayna is a Marine Corps Veteran and started Semper Fi Designs as a way to raise money for Veterans Service Organizations and people in need. She made a flag for me sporting the HAWK missile and this first, only flag of its kind raised money for a charity she supports, Run to Home Base.

Great story here of connecting with Tom who is another Marine Corps Hawker. Go to Facebook and look up Semper Fi Designs to connect with Alayna.

She is doing great work and I want her to continue to succeed. Go to Facebook and look for Semper Fi Designs. Thank you Alayna for creating this for a great purpose!

235 – Goodbye San Diego

235 – Goodbye San Diego

I wanted to do a part of my military story for this show. I thought about my last couple of weeks of boot camp at MCRD San Diego, and realized it was different than when I arrived to my memory.

The thing is I can’t really remember my last couple of weeks at MCRD San Diego. I mean, I do remember things, but not with the clarity that I can with Phases 1 & 2 of Marine Corps Boot Camp. Third Phase was no less demanding than first or second phase. The Drill Instructors did not let up one bit until we were told that we were officially United States Marines.

When I think about it, Boot Camp is a small part of military experience regardless of one’s branch of service. While I didn’t serve in combat, there were field ops that were longer than Boot Camp. However, Boot Camp is the start of the journey that all recruits must go through to earn the title of United States Marine.

I only saw one of the two members of my boot camp platoon in the fleet and one guy who was in another platoon. I have never seen anyone else after I left Boot Camp. What I mean is the strongest friendships and bonds of brotherhood are formed after boot camp when you get through MOS school and start serving in the fleet. Good stuff, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I will end with this. I still believe to this day that HAWK school in some ways was worse the Boot Camp. Hawk Class 1-96 may agree or disagree and you will find out why.

223 – Chris Turner – Red, White, & Ice

January 16th Chris Tuner will be performing at The Boondox (https://the-boondox.business.site/) in Columbia, TN to support the launch of L United.

I met Chris at the Irreverent Warriors – Tennessee fundraiser at The Boondox in September 2020. He put on a high energy show that the raised the roof!

L United is bringing hockey to Veterans and children in the Nashville, TN region. This organization is taking a unique approach to hockey for children and Veteran’s Advocacy.

Chris Turner started playing music in the Marine Corps. Music became a passion and he moved to Nashville to start his country music career. Like the other artists who are supporting this event, being able to perform is life itself. Especially when it is for a cause like L United.

You can find out more about Chris by checking him out at the following places. https://www.christurnermusic.com.

192 – The Warrior’s Book of Virtues

192 – The Warrior’s Book of Virtues

I want say thanks to Ben Biddick, US Army Veteran, host of the Get Up Nation Show who recommended the book – The Warrior’s Book of Virtues

I got to talk to two of the three authors of a book that has had a positive impact on me. Richard Bryan and Matt Bloom recounted their military experience and how this shaped their focus to write this book. The Warrior’s Book of Virtues is written in a way that anyone military and civilian can benefit from reading it.

Talking with Richard and Matt, I thought about how individuals with different backgrounds in life and the military came together to create something that is needed now more than ever. Thanks for talking with me an Semper Fidelis

Find out more about The Warrior’s Book of Virtues at – https://www.facebook.com/warriorsbook… You can buy the book on Amazon for $10.99 (Kindle) and $14,99 (Hardcover)

162 – The Moving Wall Attleboro, MA

162 – The Moving Wall Attleboro, MA

I got an email from listener about The Moving Wall. This monument is half the size of the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. There was an oppurtunity to talk with Veterans in Attleboro, MA about how this exhibit is coming to Attleboro, MA.

The Attleboro Veterans Service Officer, Ken Badertscher, along with two Vietnam Veterans came to Attleboro VFW Post 115 to talk with me about their experiences and what The Moving Wall meant to them.

As we began talking it became clear that the Vietnam War was still fresh on their minds. Both Vietnam War Veterans said that they had been healing even after all these years.. The Moving Wall shows them they are not forgotten.

And that is really the core issue with many Vietnam Veterans. For a long time, America forgot about them. America did not honor their service. These Vietnam Veterans who are alive today and are reminded of that fact. However, they are hopeful because of events like The Moving Wall. Seeing the entire city of Attleboro come together to bring this event to the region means that younger generations want to ensure stories are told. The sacrifices and ones lost will be remembered as those who answered the call, or in the case of the Vietnam War, those who didn’t have a choice to serve.

I will be going to this event, and I am looking forward to talking with these Veterans again. You all are not forgotten.
