Episode 100 – Mistress Carrie
100. 100 Episodes equals about 60 hours of content that have been produced in the last two years. I first want to thanks family, friends, co-workers and those unknown who have taken time to listen to me work on this. What is this? What is Oscar Mike Radio? Oscar Mike Radio is my way raising awareness for Veteran and Military by giving a voice to stories that would otherwise not be told. 94 episodes ago I met Kip Clark, host of the podcast Stride and Saunter (https://www.strideandsaunter.com/) and he told me I could do this.
Before the first episode was even created, Keith Hayes and Anthony Arnold got behind me to get this idea off the ground. I am happy and proud to be part of the Whoobazoo Network (https://whoobazoo.com/). This team continues to move me in the right direction, and the podcast has only gotten better.
So Episode 100 it seemed fitting to ask Mistress Carrie to come back on the show. Her first time on Oscar Mike Radio was Episode 62 – Click link here for entire show – Mistress Carrie – Episode 62 This episode was eye opener for me. I thought I was getting good at interviewing people and talking about Veterans’ Issues. Mistress Carrie was gracious and engaging and I learned a lot about content production. She is a total pro with decades of experience and I had a blast talking with her.
I worked to get better. We met up again for Episode 84 – Mistress Carrie Part 1 and she talked about working to be embedded with an unnamed Special Forces Unit. To hear how she had to prepare and what happened around that was a great story. This kind of story doesn’t happen that often, and it was cool getting the behind the scenes info.
Having Mistress Carrie back on for 100 seemed fitting. Yes she is a public figure and celebrity, but no one can argue that she walks that the talk when it comes to Veterans. I enjoyed talking with her about Richard Fitts Jr.’s documentary, 21 Years a Folded Flag. Both us of have interviewed and talked with Richard Fitts Jr. and are looking forward to seeing the finished film.
If you look at the picture below, the story behind this image made the entire experience for episode 100 worth it. I am not going to spoil it here. I will end by saying that I hope to see what is going in with 22 Kill Boston at Jump Town, and I am looking forward to seeing what Mistress Carrie is going to do next. Episode 93 – #impactfulathleteinteraction
with Tim Montjoy of Operation Teammate
University Georgia Bulldogs have been great supporters of Operation Teammate
Impactful Athlete Interaction. It is a mouthful that doesn’t really roll off the tongue. However, talking with Tim Montjoy for the third time, I get the sense that this phrase is not supposed to glide into thin air. There are all kinds of good things happening when athletes interact with children of military servicemembers. These children, who are separated from Mom or Dad for an extended period of time, see what hard work and dedication can pay off for their future.
I met Tim about two years ago and I swear he hasn’t stopped moving. Tim seems to running on full afterburner all the time as he is constantly talking with people about Operation Teammate, the children he serves, and what is next. He hasn’t slowed down from his time in the Air Force.
What is next is building on the mission focus for Operation Teammate. Instead of having a photo op for kids with the athletes, Tim wants to make sure that Operation Teammate adds value as a lifelong journey. These events are opportunities for children and athletes to learn from each other. The children see what striving for excellence can do for their future. Impactful means the athletes have the experience of learning about the sacrifices military servicemembers and their families endure. These athletes are also using this time to impart life lessons for the children. Thus we have the term #impactfulathleteinteraction. You will be seeing this phrase more and more in the future as Operation Teammate grows and expands their mission outreach. Thanks to everyone who supports Operation Teammate. Keeping a Promise
So as I said in my podcast, I am wearing the Georgia Bulldogs swag. Jill St. Jacques and Tim Montjoy have been guests and are listeners of the podcast. On Episode 60 – Operation Teammate, Founder Tim Montjoy USAF Ret. predicted that Georgia would play for the National Championship back in September, I made the promise that I would wear the gear if his prediction came true. So here it is, I hope your boys pull it off Tim.

The Word
I read about Peter Mimms last June and thought wow, someone took the prize from the Marine Corps as to who can play hide and seek the best. My thoughts went back to the Marine who survived two days in the ocean after falling or jumping overboard. (Chicago Tribune Article about LCpl Mayo falling overboard).
Seamen Mimms hid on the Missile Cruiser USS Shiloh for a week. The USS Shiloh is about 570 long and 55 feet wide at her widest point. With a crew of about 400, it would seem that finding something, much less a person wouldn’t be that difficult.
Not only did Peter Mimms hide undetected, he did it for a whole week and would have stayed hidden longer if one of fellow crew members did catch him. So I am reading all of this and thinking that this guy is a grade A sh**bird, nothing to see here.
That was until I read the Navy Times Story on Peter Mimms that detailed his financial and marriage problems. These were real problems and it seems he went through the chain of command for help. When he did not get the help he needed, he decided to hide out.
I asked myself who is to blame here? Certainly Peter Mimms could have handled this better. However, he went through the chain of command and didn’t get what he needed. What could his captain done to help him in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Let me know what you think. travis@oscarmikeradio.com
Upcoming Event
I was on the Irreverent Warriors Boston Facebook Page when I saw this event. I talked to one of the coordinators and will try to have him on next week to talk more about how breathing can help Veterans deal with PTSD, Anxiety, and other problems. This is free to Veterans and I am looking forward to learning more.

William “Ryan” Owens
Operation Teammate, Oscar Mike Radio and Whoobazoo would like to dedicate Episode 30 to the service and memory of Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens. Ryan Owens was a Navy Seal who was killed in Yemen on January 30th, 2017. I don’t have all the details of what happened, and it might be a while before any of us know. I understand service members may be taken from us at anytime, and it is never good seeing this happen.
All of us thought it would be respectful to dedicate this episode to a fallen brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Owens family. Semper Fidelis
As I said in previous episodes, I wanted to take 2017 and focus on Veterans and Active Duty Service Members who are either starting their own businesses or non-profits.
Tim Montjoy is one of those individuals who started his own non-profit organization called Operation Teammate. Operation Teammate bring children of active duty service members to sporting events to make them feel special while their mom or dad are serving our country.
Tim has brought children to events at colleges and the NBA. The children are brought to the event where they get to talk to the athletes about life planning and make good choices. They then get to watch the game. If you look at the pictures on the Operation Teammate Website, you can see kids with huge smiles at these events. I believe Tim has found a need and has worked to fill that need.
I thought this was unique because there isn’t anyone else doing something like this for children of active duty service members. I looked at several veteran charities and none of them or solely focused on children. As I started talking to Tim about how he got started and it is clear that while his Air Force career is over, his work is not done. He still wants to serve, and this personal because of his military experience.
I enjoyed doing this episode. I can’t wait to check back in with Tim to see what Operation Teammate does in the future.

I got to talk to Tim Montjoy recently and he is coming on Oscar Mike Radio in February 2017. I wanted to say congratulations on his retirement from the Air Force on November 30th. Tim joined the Air Force in 1996 in client systems and has been deployed worldwide several times throughout his career.
December 2nd, 2016 Tim was named #veteranofthesday by the VA Link to Tim Montjoy #veteranoftheday.
On December 3rd Tim was honored by the Charlotte Hornets as the Yellow Ribbon Award Recipient. Charlotte Hornets – Honoring Tim Montjoy
I am interested in getting to talk to Tim about Operation Teammate – Operation Teammate – “Operation Teammate in Augusta, Georgia, is a children’s focused organization engaged in teaming up the sons and daughters of all branches of the military, Veteran Wounded Warriors, and a variety of first responders. We give these children a memorable team experience by pairing them with sports teams who make them honorary members during that time of separation.”

Tim is kind of person I want to support on Oscar Mike Radio. The fact that he saw a need and worked to meet it shows that he has those qualities we have in our mind when we talk about veterans in the community.
