223 – Chris Turner – Red, White, & Ice

January 16th Chris Tuner will be performing at The Boondox (https://the-boondox.business.site/) in Columbia, TN to support the launch of L United.

I met Chris at the Irreverent Warriors – Tennessee fundraiser at The Boondox in September 2020. He put on a high energy show that the raised the roof!

L United is bringing hockey to Veterans and children in the Nashville, TN region. This organization is taking a unique approach to hockey for children and Veteran’s Advocacy.

Chris Turner started playing music in the Marine Corps. Music became a passion and he moved to Nashville to start his country music career. Like the other artists who are supporting this event, being able to perform is life itself. Especially when it is for a cause like L United.

You can find out more about Chris by checking him out at the following places. https://www.christurnermusic.com.

219 – Merry Christmas

Just some thoughts around Christmas this year and what someone in the military may be going through. It can be a difficult time under the best of circumstances. Regardless, I hope your Christmas is safe and that you get a chance to connect your family, friends and loved ones. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

218 – Chad Prather

218 – Chad Prather

I first saw Chad when I caught some of his videos talking about life in the cab of his pickup truck. Fast forward to today and Chad is world renowned comedian who approaches life through the lens of common sense and laughter.

Talking with me during a break from recording at his studio, Chad talked to me about how important it is to be able to laugh at oneself and poke fun where common sense is lacking.

Maybe it really is that simple. Being able to laugh and more importantly laugh with someone does more than a pill ever will. The only way to know for sure is to look for the funny side of life. Chad talks about being able to make fun of himself. I think if we all did that the world would be better for it.

I want to thank Chad for coming on my show and will look forward to laughing in the face of adversity!

204 – Irreverent Warriors – Chattanooga

I talked with Marine Corps Veteran Bobbi Smith Taylor. Bobbi is the coordinator for the Irreverent Warrior Chattanooga hike that is taking place Saturday, August 22nd.

Learning about Irreverent Warriors and Bobbi’s journey opened my eyes to how important it is for Veterans as well as all of humanity to stay connected to each other.

It was impressive to hear how Bobbi and her team of volunteers and supporters worked to make the Irreverent Warriors happen with all the challenges of COVID-19.

Just like other cities, I learned things about Chattanooga I didn’t know. Chattanooga is a beautiful city and can’t wait to visit.

This is the first in a series of shows about Irreverent Warriors in Tennessee. The next Irreverent Warriors Hike is in Nashville on September 12th, 2020.

Go to Irreverentwarriors.com to learn more about this growing Veterans Service Organization. Thank you to Andrew, Momma Bear, Stephanie, and Bobbi for making me feel part of the family.

195 – Show Up!

195 – Show Up!

I had a hiring manager reach out to me in frustration that Veterans did not show up to job interviews. Did some reading and this article by Saxon Mardsen – Huggins of Recruit Shop(https://recruitshop.com.au/why-people-dont-show-up-for-interviews/) laid it out pretty well.

Looking for a job after active duty service can be tough and nerve wracking. Believe me, there are many people pulling for you when your resume comes across their desk. Nothing is more frustrating than getting a group of people to look at a military veteran’s resume, coordinate an interview only to have the veteran candidate not show up with no explanation. It happens more often than one thinks, and it is a bad look.

As I said in the show, there are many different resources out there to help you get ready for an interview. You completed military service. A job interview is a conversation. SHOW the ______ UP!
