Episode 115 – In Memory of John Gollner, Veteran X

Like I said this is a different kind of podcast. On September 29th, I got word that a Marine I served with had passed. I couldn’t believe it. I was riding motorcycle when I got a Facebook Message from one of the Corporals I served under.

In the message was  a picture of John Gollner. I served with and under him Charlie Battery, Second Platoon. I sat beside my motorcycle for a while and could not do anything. Disbelief set in and I started making phone calls and reaching to others to get confirmation on a situation I could not fathom.

As I talked with others about his passing I wanted to do something to make sure he was not forgotten. I received permission from his father to do this podcast. John and I tried several times to sync up to have him on Oscar Mike Radio. He had started Veteran X and I wanted to find out more, but we could never make it happen. Schedules and time zones make for their own challenges…… I wish I could say otherwise.

I hope this will provide John’s family, friends and fellow Marines some sort of comfort. The most valuable thing we have in life is each other. Semper Fidelis John, I can hear you singing our anthem now.

Veteran X

Please go to the Veteran X Facebook Page and check out what John was doing. (Veteran X Facebook Page) . My view on Veteran X is some of us are Veterans. We have either given all or are prepared to do so. Hence, Some Gave All. X is anyone us at anytime can be a force for those in need. John ran his talk and it is a regret I will carry with me for a long time that we could not sync up to have him talk more about what he was doing.

Episode 98 – Daisy the Strippa Dependa

WARNING: NSFW

The woman in the picture to the left is Daisy. I was all set to interview Sgt. Megan who was on Episode 80 – Sgt. Megan . However,  when I got the session going, I was surprised to hear Daisy’s voice. Daisy was profiled on Sgt. Megan’s Website . You can check out the video below. Well, to no one’s surprise the video got a lot of views and extreme reaction. I couldn’t believe it. This was an opportunity to see if I could talk to THE Strippa Dependa.

I had to adjust on the fly and get all Semper Gumby but I was pumped. It is not every day I get to talk with a person who got so many different reactions on a 4 minute video.

Long story short, love is a simple concept for Daisy. Men love her, and she loves their money. I could sit here for another 1000 words and get all in depth about it, but there it is. She has developed a way to assess men to see if they meet her requirements and then if everything works out she gets them focused on her. Once that happens, she works on their bank accounts until it is dry or until she has found another guy to keep her pre-occupied.

This was a different kind of podcast for me. I thought I knew it all when it came to Marines going to strip clubs, but in a way she took me to school and gave me a free education. She said there were others like her out there, so all I can say guys is you have all been warned. You might want to check out the women at Wednesday night prayer meeting and avoid strip clubs all together. Because just like Jody who is looking to hook up with your wife or girlfriend, Daisy is looking to see how think your wallet is.

Again, this was a lot of fun and thanks to Sgt. Megan and her crew for helping me pull this off. You can find out more by checking out Sgt. Megan’s links below. OMR is out.

Episode 88 – Sgt Megan

Episode 88 – Sgt Megan

Episode 88 – Marine Comedian Sgt Megan

About 6 weeks ago, I saw a video about a military dependent who was a stripper. She had gotten divorced from her Marine husband and had gone back home. The video was made by Megan Bruce. At first I thought she was a civilian trying something new, but I was wrong. Megan Bruce served in the Marine Corps, and wants to use comedy to tell stories about the military experience from a female point of view. I was curious because I haven’t seen anyone in the military, especially a female, do comedy like this. The video is laugh out loud funny, but also seemed empathetic to men who go through the divorce process, and lose access to their children.

I reached out to Megan and we started talking. Come to find out she has a long term plan for what she is trying to do.  These videos are funny, but  it is the way she gets into character that leads me to believe that the Sgt Megan brand can go somewhere.

I think both videos show her range and educate without being preachy/angry. The best part of seeing her videos was reading the comments. Most people didn’t pick up on the fact that the character was not real. Even when Megan said, hey I was just in character, people had difficulty accepting that this was an act.

We all could be watching something big happening. There is space in the comedy world for someone like Sgt Bruce. She is going to be on again soon and we will talk about other things she is working on for her comedy routine. Check out the videos below and be sure to hit the links to stay in the know. OMR sends.

Episode 86 – In Memory of Sgt Littlewind

Episode 86 – In Memory of Sgt Littlewind

In Memory of Sgt. Rocky Littlewind USMC – May 12, 1989 – Oct. 23, 2016

This was a different kind of podcast. I got a message asking to talk to me about the organization America’s Run for the Fallen – Run for the Fallen. Jody Ranisate is the Lead Run Captain for Iowa. Her brother Rocky served in the Marine Corps. Rocky was deployed to Afghanistan and Okinawa. Jody loved her brother and was proud that he was a Marine. Rocky came home and had a long battle with PTSD.

Unfortunately, Rocky lost his battle with PTSD in 2016. This podcast is dedicated to his service and memory.

I have no idea what it would be like to lose a sibling or someone I know this way. When Jody and I started talking, I wanted to let her tell her story and talk about her outreach through America’s Run for the Fallen, but I wanted to be respectful. I had never done a podcast like this that was as personal and hurtful at the same time.

Jody and I got connected over Skype and once I had the sound right we just started talking. Sometimes people want to go right to their organization they represent and use the time to tell me what they do and how everyone can help. She took a different path for our conversation.
Jody talked about Rocky from a sister’s perspective. Many times you hear from the wife, mother or father about their loss, but not necessarily the siblings. As she talked to me, I got to know Rocky, not as a Sgt of Marines, but as a person, a brother who made people laugh and loved serving his country.

America’s Run for the Fallen was a way that Jody could give back and advocate for other people who have lost loved ones.

So my producer, Sinista1, hits me up and says check out this video. It is a Marine Rapper! I was like hmmm ok. I am a metal head. I like some rap, but I am in no way into the hiphop culture or all that. I watched this video (Fitzy Mess – YouTube Video – Welcome to the Infantry)  and wanted to talk with him.

Fitzy was a grunt in the Marine Corps and served overseas. He is a lifelong fan of rap and hiphop and started rapping while he was serving. Welcome to the Infantry hit YouTube a month ago and has over 50K views. There were several parts of this video that spoke to me even though I was not in the Infantry.

I didn’t feel like I was doing an interview. I thought I was back in the barracks talking to a Marine who wasn’t like me but still cool enough to talk to me about it. Even  though we served in different times and had different jobs, it was two dudes talking having a good time.

When Fitzy talked about Veterans having something the enjoy doing and are passionate about, I got it. Sometimes we as Veterans can get discouraged and frustrated with civilian life. We got to find that one thing to keep us in the game.

Fitz also talked about PTSD and Veteran suicide. This is an issue that troubles us both. We are tired of going to funerals.

With membership declining in the VFW and American Legion, maybe we need to focus more on veterans who network and support each other like Fitzy Mess is doing. All I know is a hardcore metal head loved what is brother did. You will too. Look for his next release to hit this year on or around the Marine Corps Birthday. Semper Fi Brother.
