146 – 4th Annual Massasoit Radio Conference

Keith and I had a great time with our audience

Four years ago I went to Massasoit Community College to learn more about podcasting. I have said before that podcasting appealed to me because I could use my voice and I could create my path for Veteran’s Advocacy. Over the last couple of years Keith Hayes of Whoobazoo has asked me to come along to watch and participate on some level. The 4th Annual Media Day proved to be memorable in so many ways.

LiveCast for 4th Annual Media Day

The 4th Annual Massasoit Radio and Digital Arts and Media Conference took place on April 25th. This year Keith asked me do my podcast live. I was excited. This was chance to showcase my “rig” and make it work for us.

I brought my streaming PC, Zoom H6, Microsoft Web Cams, and microphones. The goal was to show that all these items can work together to make the experience good for those watching and listening.

The room started filling up and during the livecast people came in and out. Keith and I got asked some great questions. I thought it was awesome that Massasoit and high school students were making their own podcasts! Four years ago podcasting was nothing like it was today.

A big thanks to Keith Hayes and Anthony Arnold of Whoobazoo for taking the time with me those years ago. Dr. Lisa Zinsius Supka, I appreciated the opportunity to present what Oscar Mike Radio is to an interested audience.

144 – Joyce Asack – Oscar Mike Radio’s First Sponsor

I met Joyce at a the Brockton Veteran’s Day Parade in 2016. I was getting ride with my Marine Corps League Detachment. Detachment 1115 Ist Lt. Brian McPhillips Metro South. She walked up and thanked me for my service. I had just met Mayor Carpenter so I asked what she was doing here. She whips out her business card and introduced herself as a real estate agent and someone who works in the community. I told her about Oscar Mike Radio, and she asked me for my card. I didn’t have cards at the time and Joyce said I needed to fix that. I gave her the link to the podcast and asked her tell me what she thought of the podcast.

As time went on, Joyce would tell me about podcasts she liked and didn’t like. She told me she enjoyed working with Veterans and wanted to find out more on how to help. Joyce started looking into programs the VA and other providers offered to help Veterans get financing for home loans.

I was getting a crash course in how to market myself and Oscar Mike Radio from Joyce. Knowing what to do to “sell” myself does not come easily, so I took her advice and made changes that worked for Oscar Mike Radio.

About 8 months ago, Joyce and a couple others approached me about supporting this effort in a substantial way. It took me a while to warm up to the idea. Joyce was the first to bring it up and I liked that concept she has of working hard to achieve one’s goals. A simple idea that this Marine could understand.

I am humbled and honored to proudly welcome Joyce on board as Oscar Mike Radio’s first sponsor. It is my desire to keep working and improving to make Oscar Mike Radio the best podcast it can be. Thank you

Episode 103 – Burnouts 4 Veterans 2018

Episode 103 – Burnouts 4 Veterans 2018

Episode 103 – Burnouts 4 Veterans 2018

I did a podcast on this last year. Episode 54 was about the 4th Annual Burnouts 4 Veterans at the Brockton VFW Post 1046 – Oscar Mike Radio Episode 54 – Burnouts for Veternans . Well long story short, Albie, Tiny and Victor are back at it again this year for the 5th Annual Burnouts 4 Veterans, and it is going to better than ever.

What is Burnouts 4 Veterans? This is where people in all kinds of vehicles have fun burning rubber to raise money for Veterans’ causes. Last year a couple thousand people show up to watch tires literally burst into fire. All money raised goes to support local Veterans in the Brockton Area.

This year the crew setup shuttle buses for people to help out with parking. It is still $20.00 per car load. If you have van and can fill it full of people it is $20.00. Got a motorcycle, still $20.00, but better than any movie showing right now. There is bocce ball in the back of the VFW, and the DJ kept the crowd’s energy up last year. This was hopping so much that the VFW ran out of beer!!! I am told that problem has been solved, so while I am supposed to tell you to stay hydrated, all I can say is everything in moderation.

Watching cars burning rubber is fun. There wasn’t one problem in the crowd and this is definitely a family event. Just looking at the cars and talking to the drivers, is worth the price of admission. Albie, Tiny and Victor have created something that is fun but helps others. Check it out

#That_Pushup_Guy Tough

I wanted to give a real shout out to Jim Tough’s YouTube Channel. Jim does 22 Pushups five days a week to raise awareness about Veterans Suicide and PTSD. I really like the daily message before he does pushups. If you want to see what a real person is doing, then look no further and get Pushup Guy Tough.

Episode 72 – Interview with Shaw’s Manager, Mr. Hurley

Episode 72 – Interview with Shaw’s Manager, Mr. Hurley

30 N Main St, Brockton, MA 02301

Saturday, December 23rd – 2017

Last year my producer, Keith Hayes of Sinista1 Productions and his lovely wife Dawn, put on the Ist Annual Gift of Giving Luncheon. They are doing it again this Saturday December 23rd at the Universal Missionary Church in Brockton, MA.

This was a great experience watching people in Brockton come out to support the church and the homeless. This year I was going to interview Keith and Dawn again, but he asked me instead to interview Dan Hurley who is the store manager for Shaw’s on Crescent Street in Brockton.

Keith asked me to talk to Dan because Shaw’s helped out with the Ist Annual Gift of Giving Luncheon. I went to the store and met with Dan and learned a lot about the retail grocery business. It is so cool to see the newly renovated Shaw’s.  Now it feels new and upscale but with everything I like which is great selection, friendly staff, and low prices.

Yours truly outside of Shaw’s – 715 Crescent St, Brockton, MA 02302

I really enjoyed getting to hear how Dan and his staff give back to the community. When Keith asked for help and explained what they were trying to do, Dan was excited to help out. I told him that seeing Shaw’s participate in this effort proved again that anyone can make a difference where they are. Also, it is great seeing companies help out in the local community.

This is not to say that other retail stores don’t help out. I am sure that they do, but it is good to know that when someone asks for help that a corporate citizen will assist however they can. It is good for the community, and it is a win for the company. Hearing how committed Shaw’s is to Brockton means that the 2nd Annual Gift of Giving Luncheon will be a success.

The podcast ended with me talking briefly about how powerful it is to help locally.

You can do so much for others and see it go to good use right away. There is still time to get involved with the 2nd Annual Gift of Giving Luncheon. You can check out their Facebook Page here -> https://www.facebook.com/events/522009784826607/.

Merry Christmas from Oscar Mike Radio, Sinista1 Productions and Whoobazoo. I hope to see you there this Saturday.

Episode 54 – Burnouts 4 Vets

Episode 54 – Burnouts 4 Vets

Albie’s Car that he will be driving this Saturday!

I got a message on Facebook from a listener about an event Saturday July 29th at 10 AM. He wanted to talk with me about the 4th annual Burnouts 4 Vets that raises money for the Brockton VFW Post 1046.

Tiny asked me to come down to the VFW and talk to them about Burnouts 4 Veterans.

This was started 4 years ago by Albie Robbins and his friend Victor Cimino as a way to legally have fun doing burnouts in parking lots while raising money for a good cause.

Entering into the fourth year, this rare treat is economical, family friendly, local and with free parking all in one place.

I talked with the Post Commander, Jim Doherty who outlined what the Brockton VFW did to support military and veterans in the greater Brockton area. Tiny told me that he felt like family being a part of the VFW and loved helping Veterans and people in Brockton. As for Albie and Victor, these guys could do their own TV show. It was a laugh a minute. I had a great time with these guys and they asked me to come back.

I enjoyed getting to talk to these guys and I hope to see you all there this Saturday.

The event will be held at the Brockton VFW – 283 N Quincy St, Brockton, MA 02302

Start time 10:00 AM – Until the last tire is melted rubber. Find out more at the  – Burnouts4Veterans Facebook Page
