Back in November, I had this Facebook Message in my inbox that made me curious. Mugzy Brady introduced himself as a rapper from Australia. He wondered if I would promote his music on Oscar Mike Radio.
I told him that Oscar Mike Radio was a military and Veterans podcast, but if he could send me some of tracks I would give it a listen.
Rap and Hip Hop is not my first love in music. However, I like the older stuff, so I gave his music a listen. Mugzy has a good message. The message in his music is based on being positive and pursing what you want in life. Also, there is no profanity in the lyrics of the tracks he sent me. Listening to the tracks, I became more and more interested in talking with him. We went back and forth and finally figured out a time that would work for the both us. Mugzy is thirteen hours ahead of me, but we made it work.
The conversation started off with Mugzy telling me about getting into hip hop. He had a difficult childhood, and rap allowed him to create and find a voice to make change in his life.
The key to his success and progress with his career is a willingness to be flexible and never quit. There have been challenges, ups and downs pursing being a hip – hop artist, but he has never quit.
Recap – A simple way of saying that I summarized what I did in 2018. This was an overview of 2018. Kind of hard to wrap 2018 all up in a neat bow. I grew and will continue to grow in 2019. I can say right now that I want to make progress in video broadcast productions for Oscar Mike Radio.
I will also finish my series on Jody, or how bad relationships can torpedo a soldier’s career. This has to be talked about because something as ordinary as showing up for court can cause serious problems for those who serve in the military.
There is more appetite on my side to do work with non-military stories. My first real effort is to talk with Mugzy Brady from Australia who is a rap and hip-hop artist. He has a great story, and I am looking forward to seeing his career take off.
All kinds of other things are coming over the wire for 2019. Watch this space, I am on the move.
Be advised this is a Merry Christmas Zone. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to listen. PDAWG sends.
So what does PDAWG (that’s me) want for Christmas? What would I ask Santa for to celebrate the birth of Jesus? I thought about it and here are three things I want for Christmas.
1. Yellow PT Belt
I can’t understand this. I mean seriously? What is the need or point for wearing this thing? My first wish is to have these sent to the trash heap of military history. We don’t need them to PT or win wars. At $10.00 a pop someone is making money off these bright, non-tactical pieces of plastic. Check this link out – https://www.armyproperty.com/nsn/8465-01-444-1493
I was thinking about the M1, M16 and M4. All weapons used in different wars. However, if you strip away all the things that set them apart, they are the same. They fire a shell from a casing with propellent inside at target 500 – 700 yards away. I want some kind of different weapon system developed. I don’t know what exactly, but something that won’t fail when dropped in sand. I want a system that ensures we will win fights before they start.
3. Power Armor
Those who know me, know that I am huge Warhammer 40K fan. That is not where this thought came from though. Reading about Afghanistan and IEDs, I thought about how a simple weapon was so effective against an army that is widely considered one of the best in history. I would like to have power armor that not only allowed soldiers to carry more into battle, but also protected them from harm. What if power armor could detect IEDs and neutralize them before into an AO?
125 – Army Veteran Becky Tough – Essential Oils & Toxin Free Living
I am always looking to learn how to live better. Most interesting are ways to introduce natural products into my daily life. Becky Tough served in the Army as a Medic. She told me what her favorite thing do in the Army was, and I got real nervous. Good thing she switched to wellness and healthy living, whew!
Becky has studied, researched and now uses essential oils as part of her journey toward complete wellness. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years, and more and more people use these oils in their daily lives.
Like others I have had on Oscar Mike Radio, Becky had to re-invent herself after separating from active duty service. As time and life went on she discovered that wellness for herself and family was a calling for her.
She started working with Young Living Products. You can find out more by going to her Facebook Page – Becky and Jim’s Young Living Essential Oils – These are high quality oils with all natural ingredients. Becky sent me a goody bag of samples and I am going to give this a go. If I can feel better with some of this stuff, why not?
The second mission focus for Becky is what she calls, “Toxin-Free Living“. This is where she can tell you how to reduce or altogether eliminate cleaning products that have harsh chemicals in the ingredients. I had an eye brow raised, I am not going to kid around with this. I still remember Gunny’s saying about Simple Green. “If it doesn’t smell green, then it is not clean Marine!” Those words will echo every time I clean my house. These products are all natural and it makes sense to try and switch.
As we talked, it became clear that this was not all about the money for Becky. She really wants you to consider using these products so you can have a better, healthier life. Again go to Becky’s Facebook Page to find out more: https://www.facebook.com/Toughwellness . I love it when Veterans make something different out of themselves, that still allows them to serve, but also enrich their own life. Keep being Tough Becky!
What can I get people for Christmas that is military and unique and cool at the same time? I am reading a book by US Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills about what happened after he sustained quadruple amputee injuries while in Afghanistan. I am going to do a book review podcast because the story is a must read. I found it uplifting. Calling highly paid athletes tough does not work for me after reading his story. You can get Tough as They Come on Amazon for $12.00.

The question I was asked after two US Army Green Berets and one US Air Force Paratrooper were killed is, “Why is the U.S. still in Afghanistan? The short answer is because fighting an enemy on their turf and imposing our will in their backyard is easier and less costly in the long run than doing it here. The Taliban want to raise generations of fighters who will be able to conduct terrorists attacks here on American soil. This must not be allowed to happen, and I understand and support this mission. I would say that we need to understand how this is being done and if we are making true progress in eliminating the Taliban in Afghanistan. Otherwise, we are going to keep seeing images like the one on the left. Rest in peace brothers.
It is hard for me to think about an 18 years old kid learning to fly combat missions. President Bush did just that and at 19 was shot down doing a bombing run. One of my favorite memories was watching the President Skydive at the US Army Yuma Proving Ground. President Bush was the last combat veteran to serve our country. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bush family during this time of loss.
I will be at Veteran Owned Veteran Operated Sunday, December 9th from 4-7. Jonathan Gosselin will be finishing up his clothes drive for homeless Veterans. Come on by and say hello on the Livecast. Veteran Owned Veteran Operated is located at 1540 Bedford Street Abington, MA. https://vovoprints.com/
Episode 123 – Veteran Owned Veteran Operated with Jonathan Gosselin
I love getting to talk with Veterans who have gotten out and started a business or non – profit. In many cases, the work required to remake oneself is daunting and it is hard on a good day.
Jonathan Gosselin is an Army and Navy Veteran. He owns and operates Veteran Owned Veteran Owned Printing. Check out his website https://vovoprints.com/ and you can get an idea of what he does. Let me put it to you like this, there isn’t much Jonathan Gosselin can’t do for you. I listed item after item that I wanted to have Oscar Mike Radio on and he said he could do it.
So what John and I wanted to do was Livecast from his store. He is doing a clothes drive for Veterans and has a lot of promotions going on for Christmas. I was pumped. John had done work on my logo and we had talked about doing something different for VOVO and Oscar Mike Radio.
What we decided to do is have me come down to his store (VOVO is located at 1540 Bedford St.
Abington, MA) and LiveCast. I have not done many of these, but I want to do more of this kind of work because I learn so much from getting away from my static location.
I had a lot of fun, and learned a lot about how a person like Jonathan can use what he has learned in the military to make it in the business world. He is helping me with some aspects of Oscar Mike Radio, but the real story here again is his clothes drive and willingness to take care of the customer regardless of their need.
Oscar Mike Radio will be doing more of these remote livecasts in 2019. I am looking forward to coming back to VOVO and seeing what else John has working in his store. You won’t want to miss it. We are On the Move!
