I wanted to do a part of my military story for this show. I thought about my last couple of weeks of boot camp at MCRD San Diego, and realized it was different than when I arrived to my memory.
The thing is I can’t really remember my last couple of weeks at MCRD San Diego. I mean, I do remember things, but not with the clarity that I can with Phases 1 & 2 of Marine Corps Boot Camp. Third Phase was no less demanding than first or second phase. The Drill Instructors did not let up one bit until we were told that we were officially United States Marines.
When I think about it, Boot Camp is a small part of military experience regardless of one’s branch of service. While I didn’t serve in combat, there were field ops that were longer than Boot Camp. However, Boot Camp is the start of the journey that all recruits must go through to earn the title of United States Marine.
I only saw one of the two members of my boot camp platoon in the fleet and one guy who was in another platoon. I have never seen anyone else after I left Boot Camp. What I mean is the strongest friendships and bonds of brotherhood are formed after boot camp when you get through MOS school and start serving in the fleet. Good stuff, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I will end with this. I still believe to this day that HAWK school in some ways was worse the Boot Camp. Hawk Class 1-96 may agree or disagree and you will find out why.

When I think country music with a southern vibe, I don’t think Duluth, Minnesota. However, that is where Sydney Hansen hails from and even at a young age is hard at work building her career.
Her latest single, “Fallin”, has a real soulful feel that that I found authentic when music seems to be manufactured. Sydney, goes to school, is on the dance and is working on her career. I enjoyed getting to talk with her.
Sydney’s support for Veterans comes from the heart. Her brother served in the military and seeing him serves fueled her desire to give back to Active Duty Service Members and Veterans. It was refreshing to listen to her perspective on military service.

Thank you Sydney for talking with me. I appreciate what you have done for Veterans.

Jim Musgrave served in the U.S. Army for 20+ years and retired as a First Sergeant. After retiring, Jim worked in a couple of different businesses before developing a different kind of home defense product.
Home Defense Bar (https://homedefensebar.com/) is a system that is 100% made in the USA by a Veteran Owned Business. Jim had an idea and worked to perfect a security system that was easy to install, operate, and add a layer of protection to one’s home.
The story of Jim transitioning out of the Army and then into what he is doing is similar to what many Veterans experience. The difference here is that Jim never quit and always kept working through the challenges of bringing a product to market.
I am going to evaluate the Home Defense Bar’s effectiveness. Jim is betting that I will not be able to compromise his system:)
You can order the Home Defense Bar directly from https://homedefensebar.com/.
Thank you Jim for talking with me! I look forward to testing your system!

Like Tarrish Potter, Marine Veteran Chris Turner performed a month ago at the 2021 Tennessee Veteran Launch Event. He is coming back Friday February 12th to headline the Hearts for Warriors Event at The Boondox in Columbia, TN.
After we both had a chuckle about Jodie, we talked about how lessons learned in the Marine Corps apply to being in a band and going through good and bad times together. A leader has to be at the front and set the example. A leader also has to own the mistakes and issues at all times.
One of the songs you will hear Friday night was co-written by Navy Veteran Heather Clark. Getting to write this song with Heather has been a journey. They can’t wait to perform it for the first time February 12th.
I really enjoyed getting to listen to Chris talk about how his music and non-profit work go hand in hand with his purpose in life and music. Thank Chris for talking with me, I can’t wait to hear you perform again!
Tarrish Potter was first on Oscar Mike Radio a month ago. We met through her support of the 2021 Tennessee Veterans Launch Event.
It was at The Boondox that Tarrish first performed the song Unknown Soldier she wrote with her mother. It was surprise at the end of her set and the whole crowd got quiet when Tarrish told us the story about how this song came to be. She has some new music she will be performing at the Hearts for Warriors Event February 12th 2021 at The Boondox in Columbia, TN.
Additionally Tarrish is working on a new EP and a music video abouit Luke Bryan that will all be in motion this year. Does anyone know who Luke Bryan is????? 😉
Thank you for talking with me Tarrish.
